On 19 January, the Health and Environment Committee of the Municipal Council of Children invited me to attend their meeting to talk about the Walking School Bus.
Many of us around the table: the 16 councilors children (representatives of different schools and Caluire Cook), Yvette Vergnion (Councillor delegate to DEC) and their leaders Pignard Fanny (who is expecting a happy event for April ) and Beatrice Benin (which will replace his absence).
Children familiar with the Walking School Bus and participated in Car Free Day last year. They have lots of ideas but not necessarily related to their committee. Fortunately their leaders to help them structure their ideas: they would like their actions indicate their mandate 2011.
I explained the role of the Walking School Bus and the importance of walking for both their health but also for our environment. When they go to college, they often take the bus or walk. The Walking School Bus teaches them the dangers of the road and how to behave as a pedestrian.
The dates of the health day is 07/04/2011 and the Environment Day on 05/06/2011.
The organization of the Car Free Day 2011 will probably be June 1 or June 6, 2011.
Children WEC does not wish to intervene as those of the 2010 session had been very active (giving a green kit).
They prefer to do a story.
I told them past the sequence of the film "a child in the city" where a line of our Walking School Bus has been filmed. This film will be released soon on CAP CANAL.
